I'll try that and report back. Certainly a possibility I hadn't thought of, seeing as the only problems I've had for years has been fighting with the "raid" in the bios. Switching acpi off is simple enough. I'll also try with the old memory, and ensure the bios is up to date. Weird though - grub starts up, then bang. Bust be a 32 bit application. Cheers, Steve
