Which, in essence & correctly imho, says that there is such a small difference between the mlm scams, pyramid schemes, and out and out illegal chain-letters that it can be ignored. The difference is that there is 'product' of minimal intrinsic value involved. If you are successful in operating an ordinary business, you build an asset you can sell and retire on the proceeds. When you do the same thing with Amway, and presumably all the others, they prohibit you from ever realising the value of your efforts as capital. That is what I was told by an Amway executive, and quite apart from the innate morality of the exercise, why I am not part of that particular house of cards. Remember that it was not so very long ago, less than forty years anyway, that franchises and mlm schemes, and were strictly illegal in this country. There was a well founded reason for that law: It was for the protection of the naive from financial predators. Then "liberalisation" became a buzz word throughout the world and millions of ordinary folk were relieved of their savings. The problem for little ol' NZ was that there were no legislative boundaries whatever at the time, and precious little now. Oh for a return to those days when NZ was actually a pretty nice place in which to live. -- Sincerely etc. Christopher Sawtell
