Yep and running an open relay is the same as saying Welcome spammers.... a CEO 
of a company told the IT dept to open up the internet connected exchange box 
so he could send email from his home account and in less than an hour 
spammers had bounced about 7000 messages off the box. Putting it into the 
ORBS list and basically prompting dirty messages from their ISP.

You could always specify your local sendmail but I would go with your ISP's 
SMTP relay.
