Well, I went and looked... Here is a quote directly from the Varicad FAQ:

"There is a possibility of design structure (ASCII) exporting and importing 
into CAPP files. VariCAD is able to export/import DWG, DXF and IGES (2D) 
files. Note: Complete features for IGES 3D export facilities in both Windows 
and Linux versions are to be released in future. Further processing of the 
VariCAD data is possible in external applications." 

If you are going to be working with 3D drawings that will be sent to machine 
shop or some other type of shop that will produce parts, your gonna have 
problems that will equate to paying the shop who is going to do the work to 
further massage 2D output into 3D output. Plus, the shop doing this could 
inadvertently change something in the drawing and give you parts that don't 
work.
