Epson 1660 question

My epson usb scanner, under kernel-2.4.20, shows an error in dmesg:
open_scanner(10): Unable to access minor data
I wonder if epson (or other) scanner users have this problem. The scanner seems to function perfectly but shows as a "[epson] Device name = GT-8300." It is, as stated, an Epson Perfection 1660.

Anyone with an idea?
