I did <G>.  It should be as mplayer plays the url properly when given

        mplayer http:/blah.blah...

What is not documented is how Mozilla runs the program as in what it passes to it or 
how it starts it.  However, in a Win2K registry MS does this with their player

        mplayer2 /Play "%L"
