My email has been swallowed by the worm.

I got the resizing to work. I have to use the menu to get to the
submenu for the resize/crop tool so I can specify scaling, not rotating. But,
it works.

Thanks for the link to Grokking Gimp. I have been using the pdf GIMP
manual but this is very unsatisfactory because I can't jump around with
links. Grokking is what I need.
