Hi Guys,
I am trying to get FAAD built so I can view ACC/Sorensen AVI files under MPlayer. I've build and installed the requisite libsndtools, but FAAD2 is giving me fits. I have the latest Automake and AutoConfig as well as libtools, but no joy.
I'm including the error text from the bootstrap script, it creats a proper configure script. I am hoping one of you may have come across something similar.
BTW I have been searching onlie and in the docs for some info, but nada.
Shawn
aclocal: configure.in: 5: macro `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL' not found in library
autoheader: error: AC_CONFIG_HEADERS not found in configure.in
configure.in: `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE' must be used
automake: no proper implementation of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE was found,
automake: probably because aclocal.m4 is missing...
automake: You should run aclocal to create this file, then
automake: run automake again.

/usr/local/share/automake-1.7/am/depend2.am: AMDEP does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL
frontend/Makefile.am:6: `CFLAGS' is a user variable, you should not override it;
frontend/Makefile.am:6: use `AM_CFLAGS' instead.
frontend/Makefile.am:8: `LDFLAGS' is a user variable, you should not override it;
frontend/Makefile.am:8: use `AM_LDFLAGS' instead.
libfaad/Makefile.am:1: Libtool library used but `LIBTOOL' is undefined
libfaad/Makefile.am:1: libfaad/Makefile.am:1: The usual way to define `LIBTOOL' is to add `AC_PROG_LIBTOOL'
libfaad/Makefile.am:1: to `configure.in' and run `aclocal' and `autoconf' again.

libfaad/Makefile.am:18: `CFLAGS' is a user variable, you should not override it;
libfaad/Makefile.am:18: use `AM_CFLAGS' instead.
Ready to run ./configure
I went through this hell yesterday afternoon. To make a very long story short, i ended up checking faad2 out of cvs, and that built without any special voodoo. All other versions & attempts failed miserably with errors similar to those that youv'e run into. However, i'll note that even after all this nonsense, MPLayer still refused to play sound in the new Matrix trailer. Even more interesting is that Xine, before i installed faad2, was fully capable of playing the new Matrix trailer with sound. So, i gave up on this personal crusade to make Mplayer do what Xine was quite capable of doing with half the hassle.
