I'm fumbling my way through getting ACPI working on my laptop (which doesn't support APM). I've applied the patches from acpi.sf.net to 2.4.21, and i'm booted into that kernel right now. I've got the acpid running, so i'm assuming its doing something, although i'm not too clear on what.

I've got a whole mess of entries under /proc/acpi with alot of interesting info. I'm assuming that i don't need to tinker with them manually, but i could be wrong. What i'm not able to figure out is do i need to do anything further for acpi to work its magic (prevent the laptop from overheating, monitor battery usage etc)? Anyone have a clue to throw me?
