I'd choose Slackware. Mandrake dinks with the kernel and makes a lot of other "helpful" decisions for you that you really prefer to make yourself. Slackware is lean and clean. As a result, I think it is faster and easier to maintain because you don't have to decipher Mandrake's way of doing things (or Red Hat's, or SuSE's, or...).
