Jerry,

    Have you done a search on freshmeat or the like? I searched for smb and found 
quite a few hits. I found smbmount, kruiser, etc without digging much..

    My guess is that many will use smbmount for mounting windows shares, and simply 
use the unix filesystem for the Unix "shares".
