Is this a ISA sound card? Perhaps an isapnp needs to be ran for this

Have you tried running dhcpcd from the command line? My DSL connection
will not initialize with the GUI or at boot up. It uses an older dhcp
protocol that requires the -r flag. Try 'dhcpcd -r <device>'
