dirt is an effective bomb if you dump enough of it on the target. and
this thing appends files it finds on the host's hard drive to itself
before propagating. my first encounter with it involved two instances
in which the attachment and the code itself totaled more than 900k. a
dozen or so of those, combined with a dialup, and you'd think of it
as something other than just a worthless binary. i've very nearly had
it with these microsoft rump swabs who refuse to take even the most
elementary security precautions. i've been responding fairly
politely; i'm about ready to respond thusly:
"though i don't know you, thank you for sending me one of your
private files attached to the outlook macro virus you're spreading.
in that my private files are, well, private, i thought that this
source code for the new openoffice, which you can build and run on
your windows machine with only minor changes in the source code,
might be of interest. i'm sure you were bothered by the long download
no more than i was."
i won't do it, but it's fun to think about.
