Linear regression.
Right now, this is the sort of thing on my desk once every 6 months:
Five hospitals putting up a new test. We need to establish normal ranges.
In doing so, I need to be sure that the results are the same between all
five hospitals, and that we have taken into account any differences between
machines, hospitals, age and gender groups, at the minimum.
We supposedly have vendor help for doing this, but their statistical support
is ludicrous. All the vendors do is put the data into an excel spreadsheet, and do a
simple
statistical descriptive analysis. For example, on one test, they reported a
mean of 110 with -49 to 300 as the normal range.
Of course, I have more ambitious plans if we ever get some good software.
