I always have a floppy or two with Tom's linux on it http://www.toms.net/rb as it has saved my butt more often than I care to remember. If you don't have a running system use that, or your favourite floppy linux. dmesg or a mild check by e2fsck might well give you a fix on what device is involved. Hard disks these days lie as fluently as politicians to the system. At a guess, the problem is different interpetations of the same lies (You get this sort of thing with Lilo occasionally too). Formatting the disk a track or two smaller might work around it. -- Regards, Declan Moriarty Applied Researches - Ireland's Foremost Electronic Hardware Genius A Slightly Serious(TM) Company Success covers a multitude of blunders - G.B.
