See the other thread for what happened.  I've got something funky going
on with gdm, as best I can tell.  I get the "id 'x' respawning too fast"
error when the box attempts to go to RL5.  However, i can run
XFree86-4.2.0 just fine with 'startx'.  I'm stumped right now.
