Wow, now I'm impressed! Had to add another repo for mesa 8.0.1, and instant 1100-1400fps. Didn't even have to re-log in. Very noisy operation though - cpu fan doing overtime... Don't have xcompmgr, I assume KDE does something equivalent. Thanks muchly for the tip, and for the lappie/intel/nvidia warning!
