Hi all.
I downloaded a movie from MV Group which I wish to play on my video
recorder. The size is 747MB so it will not fit on a 700MB cd.

I therefore ran.....

ffmpeg -i inputfile.avi -target vcd-pal outputfile.mpg

and burnt outputfile.mpg using k3b to a cd. The resulting disk is not
recognised by the dvd player which is supposed to play a vcd/divx.

After many attempts at various formats& browsing the web I am now

thoroughly confused. What am I missing?

TIA

Barry

I use a wee program called devede to generate multimedia that I can use
with my DVD player.

Dunno if that will make tapes tho (:

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks Steve, I'm trying it now. Actually its a dvd player - wrong
terminology.

If you cannot plug your computer into your TV then think about a wdtv
live or a boxee box or similar. Changing codecs all the time reduces
quality and is a huge waste of computing power.

Thanks Nick. The purpose is to make the movie available to a computer-illiterate friend.

Tried devede. It produced 2 files - .bin & .cue. mplayer will play the .bin file. I used the.cue file in k3b to burn the cd. It appears to have all the necessary files but will not play in the dvd player and mplayer will not play it in the box. mplayer vcd://1 finds it but exits with the comment "Exiting... end of file"

Grrrr
