I have been cursing and swearing at my laptop for about 45 minutes here, wondering why when I grep multiple files the filename is not given in the answer (as should be the default when grepping multiple files). It didn't seem to matter if I added -H or any other tricks from man grep. Google didn't help.
Then I altered the viewing angle slightly and noticed that the filenames were being reported back, in a purple that is very close the to the black background in my xterm. D'oh!
