Hi all, monthly notice, November 6,

Tomorrow night is the Freenix* workshop, 7.30-9.30pm (first Wednesday of each month, February to December), at the South Learning Centre <http://www.library.christchurch.org.nz/South/>, entry at rear door of South Christchurch Library, 66 Colombo Street, Beckenham-Cashmere.

We use the 33-computer suite of i5s and overhead projector there for free and open-source software demonstration: a BYO thumb-drive / memory stick or liveCD software distribution show & tell, a knowledge exchange with system troubleshooting help and basic tuition on hand. Notebooks and tablets are easy demo systems people may choose to bring along.

Technical presentation space - an open format for talks people can offer, and monthly venue familiarisation with training for the http://www.SoftwareFreedomDay.org open day annual event (SFD).

Freenix workshop is a social opportunity to meet other *nix users, have FOSS installation questions answered, gather on-line computer security tips, plan FOSS projects, etc. All welcome. A $2 SFD donation is asked.

Debian-based software distributions are the main type we currently display on the lab machines: L/Ubuntu 12.04 - 13.10, Linux Mint and Point Linux GNU/Linux especially. New users can request any FOSS CD or DVD burnt, from what is displayed, or by off-list reply to this email.

Come along and join the fun.

Kind regards,

Rik Tindall
