Hi All,

Regarding existing meetings, I and possibly many new entrants would love to attend the regular meetings, but have only as such been given a basic hint of their existence! All I have done so far is subscribe to the mailing list, and only heard secondhand (Through the list) that these meetings actually still take place. Could I recommend that the details of these are put on the UoC web page where the subscription addresses are?

Cheers,

Peter

Hi All,

Pardon the intrusion, but it would be great to get a meeting place
organized. The talk of politics is always more fun in person!

Cheers,

Peter

You ignore the existing meetings then?

Hi,
Good memory Nick, it was me that started that ls series.. (I was
gobsmacked by the ones others found).

It seems that most people do seek the interesting - look at the popularity
of the british quiz show QI.

The real reason for the push for "interesting facts only", is that by
doing this we make it stand out from the crowd.
By doing so, it will attract more interesting facts and get better and
better..

Enough said.

what do others think - is it a reasonable requirement to push for
"interesting facts only" ?

Even, horror stories on computer maintenance are ok - many like to learn
from other's mistakes..

Cheers,
  Derek.

Yep, interesting factoids are good. I liked the series of ls commands
you (I think) posted to the list recently, lscpu etc.

Hi,
   Exactly.

I would say, given the response on the 1e100 thing, that if we push to
make
it "interesting", people will come..

Fill it with factoids.
      1001 variants on ls

Did you know that the ~. key sequence, when connected via ssh to a
remote
console, will kill the connection?
Thus, if you are sshed to a remote box, and it does go down, you can
close
the link without too much pain..

Cheers,
   Derek.
