Josh, Thanks heaps, apart from the . missing in front of the /configure the instructions below were PERFECT.
Obviously I have only tested the basics but it all seems to work for my Quickcam Fusion. 1) Control via the web browser was no problem after I found that you needed localhost or 127.0.0.1 2) Making a movie, taking a snapshot or getting an image via movement no problem. 3) did notice an interrupt to my sound when an image was taken, so it needs a bit of processing grunt. 4) I clicked on makemovie and got a 15sec one(I guess that is a default somewhere) but no sound. Is there a way to record sound with the image? I want to use the webcam to monitor a remote controlled Telescope. Part of the warning feedback is from the sound the scope makes so getting the sound working would be good. 5) I have compiled the uvcvideo with the patch in and so far I have stopped and started the camera more than 10 times without it freezing. 6) by default it wants to write the pid to /var/run/motion.pid on my system this is a root file so I could only run the daemon from root. Change the pid directory to a local one and it ran from my userid no problem. 7) tested connection to the web browser port with Firefox, Opera, Seamonkey and Konqueror. They all displayed images but firefox only displayed the first image.
