I have a similar 'problem' - generally when I boot up the webcam's
microphone is found first and that's used as a default sound device. The
solution is to run 'alsaconf' as root to reconfigure ALSA and choose the
correct soundcard to use. There's probably a better solution out there but
I don't reboot frequently enough to go looking for one. :)
