Most sensors can flip the image vertically and/or horizontally. Unfortunately, 
most camera firmwares don't export that capability. We end up with hardware 
capable of mirroring the image and no way to use that capability.

I've had confirmation by one Taiwanese chipset vendor that their driver 
performs image mirroring in software.
