Try to contact the Skype developers and report the issue. While I can't 
completely rule out uvcvideo bugs in this case, having it work when used by 
Kopete points to a bug in Skype.

Could you please send me the output of

lsusb -v -d 5986:0105

with usbutils 0.72 or newer (0.73+ preferred) ?
