I did change the uvc_compat.h file. Now I get the following messages for
make and make install

# make
Building USB Video Class driver...
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-53.el5-i686'

  LD [M]  /home/usapre/Desktop/trunk/uvcvideo.o

WARNING: could not open /home/usapre/Desktop/trunk/version.h: Invalid
argument
  LD [M]  /home/usapre/Desktop/trunk/uvcvideo.ko
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-53.el5-i686'

# make install 
Installing USB Video Class driver...
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-53.el5-i686'
  INSTALL /home/usapre/Desktop/trunk/uvcvideo.ko
  DEPMOD  2.6.18-53.el5
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-53.el5-i686'

I don't know if that means good or bad though...but I still get the same
error message for luvcview -L command
