Hi ,
This web cam wasn't listed on http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/, so as
requested I'm emailing details to the list:
lsusb reports it as 04f2:b106 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
It is a 2MP laptop integrated into the Asus G71V laptop.
This is the (hopefully) relevant sections of output from dmesg:

I was able to make the web cam work with the following command line in
Ubuntu 8.10
luvcview -f yuv
Please note that this laptop also has an integrated DVB tuner. The
relevant id for that is 1164:1f08 YUAN High-Tech Development Co., Ltd.
Regards,
Mathew
