Hi there,

I got a very cheap webcam in order to test some CV stuff. But as
the cam didn't cooperate I started researching why and finally encountered
this mailing list.

The first thread I saw was:
http://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/linux-uvc-devel/2008-December/004410.
html
I tried setting quirks=2 as mentioned there et voila I got a beautiful
picture with VLC and cheese. (Didn't try other programs yet.)

Now there are some things I don't understand:
1. When I do a `cat /dev/video1` while the cam is connected the shell
tells me: "cat: /dev/video1: No such device"
If the cam is not connected the shell returns "cat: /dev/video1:
No such file or directory"
2. I tried some code-snippets from http://www.c-plusplus.de/forum/viewtopic-
var-p-is-1626217.html but they all either abort with the "No such
device" error when they try to "read(...)" or return a picture with
an almost black picture and very few mixed colored pixels at the
top.
3. When starting cheese from shell it frequently says: "libv4l2:
error converting / decoding frame data: v4l-convert: error parsing
JPEG header: Not a JPG file ?" but I get a picture.

Next thread I saw was:
http://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/linux-uvc-devel/2009-April/004741.html
That is the one I'm about to response to. You, Laurent, said you
need some consecutives frames. When you give me a code-snippet to
capture some I'll try. (I don't know how to as the snippets mentioned
above IMHO don't work).

Regards,
Marcel
