I've seen some discussion about this in January 2010 on this list. Has this issue been resolved? For those who don't remember or haven't seen the post, it is here:

Essentially the camera seems to request the highest bandwidth regardless of fps, resolution, compression (raw or mjpeg).

Has anybody come up with a solution for this? Is there a patch, or one in progress? Anyway of ignoring the camera request, or forcing it to accept less bandwidth as necessary?

I have tried vlc, ffmpeg, motion - it will not allow me to use more then one MS Lifecam Cinema at the same time because of usb bandwidth limitations - even if I force mjpeg compression, low fps (down to 1) and low resolution (320x240). On the other hand, I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 (with similarly high spec) and two MS Lifecam VX-5000 - and I can use all three at the same time if I force mjpeg compression, with 640x480 and fps 10 - so it would be possible.
