We're trying to run a Trident 9397 (rev 243) based portable
computer with XFree86 3.3.3.1. Since the SuSE X servers seem
to no longer exist (there must have been an xtrident.rpm
a while ago on their Web server, at least it's referenced to),
I tried to use XF86_VGA16 and *_SVGA. With the chipset set
to cyber9397, the display shows strange patterns, and the whole
machine crashes when alt-crtl-bksp is pressed. With chipset generic,
it won't work either, but now the clocks are quite strange.
The SVGA server produces similar results.
Will upgrading to a newer XF86 version cure our problems ?
Which info would be needed to investigate this prob further ?
Please advise.
Steffen
P.S. I _did_ use the XF86Config files the linux laptop page points
to for 9397. No avail.
