Good, if it's already fading into insignificance we don't have to
worry about their IPR scheme. I've heard this mentioned in a talk 
by Zach Shelby [1] but wasn't quite sure how serious to take the
statement.

In the context of qi-hardware, which is about copyleft hardware, we
plan to use IEEE 802.15.4 as a "poor man's WiFi", since chips or
modules for the 802.11 family tend to be very closed. An open standard
like 6LoWPAN is ideal for our purposes.

I intend to look into this issue as well. Without commercial support,
this would also have to be "just" a hobbyist effort. Maybe the
companies who would be interested were just afraid of the oh so scary
Guardians of the Kernel :-)
