Hi everyone. I've joined the mailing list and am very interested in
installing linux on my Nano, largely because I no longer have the
Apple OS installed on my Macbook, so I have no way of interfacing the
iPod. I'm a mathematician and an advanced linux user, I speak French
and Spanish, and I'm willing to do anything at all to my iPod.
However, I don't know anything about hardware. Cheers!

Hi.
I don't have Mac OS X either, and Amarok works with my Ipod Nano just
fine.
You don't need Linux on your IPod just for "normal" use, only if you want
to
customize it, like to be able to play .ogg files, change interface, etc.
That aside, if I'm not entirely mistaken, noone even knows what kind of
encryption they use on the firmware, or what chips do what (though there
has
been some qualified guesses), or even why Apple is doing this, so there's
certainly a lot to do.
Another question, though, has anyone tried contacting Apple directly and
just
asking? Maybe mentioning something about the legality of this
anti-competitive behaviour in certain jurisdictions.

Hi everyone,
I'm part of this project, welcome !
First you should try to understand what has been achieved so far by
browsing the official website
http://www.linux4nano.org and then come back to us :)
A new (clearer) version of the website will be available soon.
Thanks
Regards,
Jean Loup Le Roux.
