Can Excel import XML? I hacked a utility called asdbget which uses FTP and
some AS/400 specific magic to retreive files from the 400 and put translate
them in to ASCII XML format (which has a header describing the complete
file layout).

The theory is that you could pipe it to a quick hack of a perl script using
XML::Parser that could translate it into any other format.

I don't know anything about XML (yet?) but I'm extremely interested in your
AS400 magic! I'd really like to be able to use ODBC to get data from AS/400
files. I don't always need to get the whole file (although a lot of times,
I do need the whole file or can work with it if I do get the whole file.)

I'm about to embark on a project where I'll need to update a database on
Linux periodically with data from the AS/400. Obviously I need an automatic
way of doing this. I know this isn't exactly on topic (well, not even close
anymore, I guess...) Anyone doing this? Is there an appropriate forum for
this discussion?

TIA!
