Interesting interview on IBM and Linux....

best quote (and relevant):

ITD: So when will Linux enter the AIX space?

WB: I don't expect that to happen for a few years yet,
  but it is certainly on the horizon. Once this happens
  we should be far enough down the road with our Unix
strategy that Linux becomes just one of the many
options open to people. We are planning to create a
  single application development environment for both
Monterey and Linux. This will give total and complete
compatibility at the application level, which will make
the choice of Monterey or Linux completely irrelevant.
At this point, nobody will care about the operating
system because they have openness and compatibility
across the application environment and the decision to
sell them either Linux or Monterey will be an internal
decision that we will make.

<important part>
  As part of this common
  platform approach we will hope to build Linux
  integration into everything, including the AS/400, so
  that it will all ultimately run together.

</important part>
This is of course a
  long way off and before any of this can happen our job
  is to ensure that both Linux and Monterey are the best
  possible systems available in their respective market
  segments.
