Actually, what I remember reading is that IBM will try to change the
returned format only by adding fields after the end of the fields defined
in the format for the previous release. Thus, a program which uses the
format-length returned by the API can continue to work across release updates.
I was about to reply off the cuff, but instead did some homework. You
are correct: the FLDL0100 format of the QUSLFLD API has changed in
v4r4.
As you say, the length of each list entry is returned by the API, so
it shouldn't present a major technical issue. Except that you still
can't FTP a user space...
