I'd try to answer your question, but I don't know what to say:

1) I've never used a French keyboard.
2) I don't use the Linux keyboard maps.

If you're feeling adventuresome, you can try the '+' key. It doesn't work
like Field + in my experience, but it's what Mike & Jay seem to have
designed to work as Field +.

In some (newer) versions of tn5250, Ctrl-X is mapped to work as a "real"
field+ key. I don't know which versions this is in, however. You can
find out by going to the src directory and doing this:

$ grep "FIELDPLUS" cursesterm.c
   { K_FIELDPLUS,       "\030" }, /* CTRL X */
         return K_FIELDPLUS;
$

You can see here that FIELDPLUS is wired to the "\030" (Ctrl-X) key.

If you're using one of these newer versions of tn5250, you should be
able to edit /usr/local/share/tn5250/XTerm and add a line like this:

        <Key>KP_Add: string("\030") \n\

Which will make the Keypad's '+' key work as Field+.

Maybe that'll get you started?
