That's an invalid outputcommand. You cannot do quotes like that. The
shell doesn't like you putting quotes in the middle of an argument.
Try this instead:
lp5250d 'outputcommand=cat > /tmp/out$$' trace=/tmp/trace.out host
Then, according to a message from John Ross (the owner of NetShare400.com)
you cannot use a device name of LP0. You need to use your user name.
He posted that message yesterday. If you missed it, it's in the

I can't give you any more info than that because I'm not a user on
NetShare400 and I have no idea what any special considerations of the
set-up would be.
