Minutes for HAMLUG meeting 3/5/02

The meeting format was different than in previous meetings. As members
arrived discussion centered around firewall operation with address
translation, DNS, DHCP, non-routable addresses, and all the trimmings. With
this as the start, discussion flowed from topic to topic, and likely
everyone came away knowing more than when we arrived.

Some notable differences from pervious meetings:
a. there was no network, many brought systems, but everyone thought 'someone
else'' would bring a hub to plug into. (but we did have a DHCP server if
there was a network)
b. there was no scheduled demo, but we ended up with mini demo's of DVD
players, Tex, and various others.
c. turnout was one of our larger meetings. ( although some of our more
regular members couldn't make it)
d. the spirit of free exchange was among us with almost everyone
contributing to the discussions, sometimes a few parallel
 discussions each on tempting subjects.

The meeting fell into its traditional 2 part structure. The main meeting
approx 6:30 to 8:30 with general discussion as mentioned. The second
'informal' half of the meeting when we usually tear down and pack up started
as it usually does, everyone getting ready to go, but has ' one last
question...'.

Discussions here ranged into discussion of our first computers and various
antiquities. The lost art of efficient coding and system tuning came up
several times, noting that business today can just buy faster hardware to
'fix' improperly coded or tuned systems.

We almost forgot to ask for volunteers for the TCF table. However, had many
questions about said table:

a. Will we be at one?
b. With who? (Will we be sharing with other LUGs?)
c. What hours are needed? (basically all)
d. What is the purpose of being at the table? ( recruiting members?,
providing demos? just being there?)

As mentioned, we had many discussions. If any in particular was not
mentioned, it was unintentional, so please feel free to add as needed.

Great meeting!!!! Hope to see everyone+ again.
