Maybe I'm the last dope on the planet to find out about this really nifty setting in the XFree86 config file, but just in case, I thought I'd share:
In the "Monitor" section, you can put a line like: Gamma <number> where the default is 1.0. I tried 0.5, and all of a sudden, my laptop display panel looks a whole lot better! It feels like the contrast has been turned down, and the colors seem more vibrant than before. --krishna p.s. I'm going to be out of town on Apr 2, which I believe is our next scheduled meeting.
