Some of us have been discussing the possibility of
setting up a VPN (virtual private network) for HAMLUG.
It would operate across the web, look like a lan to us
but would be isolated and encrypted and secure from
the rest of the internet.

The key to doing this is to have a server that is
online 24/7 which would direct the traffic. If there
is some willing person who has an always online
machine we can start working on this.

There are issues about security, firewalls, protecting
the private network of the host but all that is
workable.

If you have an online server available on which we
could run a VPN service we could get started on this.

Having a virtual LAN opens up possibilities for the
LUG. There are lots of projects we could embark upon
with that capability.
