I currently use a little device called a "Wireless Ethernet Adapter", made by SMC, which requires no drivers (well, it needs your Ethernet driver, but that's not usually a problem). I wrote an Epinion on it at: http://www.epinions.com/content_100935765636
Other noteworthy links:
* The linux-wlan project, which actually writes the drivers:
http://www.linux-wlan.com/linux-wlan/
* A comprehensive and up-to-date list of hardware information
maintained by Jean Tourrilhes :

* "Wireless 802.11b on Linux" written by Jason Boxman, on his
experience:

* I just found this "Wireless LAN resources for Linux" page in
Google. Looks promising... :

PS. Try writing the big distributors, requesting linux drivers. I got the usual "no, we don't support linux" crap, but every additional email/phone call will help hardware vendors understand there's a serious market here.

I seem to be off of the hamlug list. If you want to offer my response, the Netgear MA311, usually goes for $50-$70, and works with any of the Prism2 drivers, including HostAP.

Is there a cheap wireless pci card (brand) that has
drivers for Linux? and... for those who have
suggestions, have you actually tried it and made it
work?
