There has been some confusion around which resource management components
will be included in Nterprise Linux Services product. It has been rumored
that Novell is planning to drop ZENworks from Nterprise Linux Services,
which is slated to go into beta testing mode later this year. Reports
indicated that Novell was going to completely replace ZENworks with the Red
Carpet tools which were developed by Ximian Inc., and recently acquired by
Novell. This created a lot of confusion, since ZENworks technology was
originally the only management component to be included in the product.

Here's the scoop. Both Resource Management components are providing
functionality to the Linux bundle, serving different functions. Red Carpet
technology is now providing the ability for software updates to be
automatically delivered via a service hosted by Novell and ZENworks
technology will provide the consolidated resource management user interface.

It's terrific news for ZENworks customers, who will benefit from the
specialized Linux management capabilities of Red Carpet that were gained
with the Ximian acquisition, as well as Linux enhancements to the ZENworks
product line.

Stay tuned here to Cool Solutions to watch for updates on integration
between these Resource Management products, as Novell focuses on providing a
leading Linux management solution for customers.

ZENworks, together with Red Carpet Enterprise for Linux environments,
provides the technology foundation customers need today to consolidate and
reduce the costs of managing and their environment across platforms, systems
and processes.[quote/]
