I am looking a video capture device that can record live video output
from a computer, including the whole boot process, like to demonstrate
Ventoy. As this is not happening live on a large screen projector, but
on a video call, this is what I would need to be able to broadcast it. I
don't think I will have time to get something all setup by the time of
the meeting next week. The VMs are good to a point for many hings but
something like Ventoy is hard to virtualise as the whole thing is
designed to work on physical USB keys. Unless someone finds me a way to
take a USB key and make it an ISO file to use on a VM.

Just to be clear: Is this a device that plugs into HDMI on one machine
and into USB3 on another?
That is, we're capturing output to HDMI "screen".

ClonerAlliance claims that all of their USB video capture devices are
Linux compatible via the Linux UVC driver. I haven't seen any videos
that directly show one of their products being used in a Linux
environment, but in Chris Titus Tech's Youtube review video from May
2020 he discusses running a number of different video capture devices
in a Linux environment.

I am looking for a good (!) video capture device that can capture
HDMI output from a computer, Chromebook, Android cell phone,
etc...... Anything that has an HDMI output port. This is to do
screen snapshots and video capture for demonstrations. I realized I
will not be able to demonstrate Ventoy running while booting, unless
I convert a physical USB device to an ISO file and try (!) to use it
within a VM. But if I can capture the output from an external
device, I will be able to save it for future, but also for live demo
of about anything I want to show.
Any good or bad experiences with such devices under Linux ? I did a
quick Google search and it looks like there are several devices,
actually too many options to be able to properly select.
My requirements are:
- Must run with Linux
- Need to be an external device
- Need to connect on USB 3
- Need an output port to connect to a monitor
Thanks :-)
