Our English dance group is looking at equipment upgrade. I set up current
system many moons ago
- Linux (Mint MATE or Xubuntu over the years)
- file manager (Caja or Double Commander) to access file
- alsaplayer for playing mp3 because it has simple keyboard shortcuts that
actually work, and it is a good idea NOT to try using mouse. With Alsaplayer
Z starts from beginning, C toggles play, V stops play, Q and T (I think)
slow
or speed up play. All very useful for dancing. There's others for volume
control,
but we tend to do that with analog control on the speaker.
It's now getting time to upgrade the equipment to get lighter and possibly more
capable equipment, for example, allowing a caller microphone feed to be merged
into
the output.
One feature we would like is the ability to use a small, hand-held remote with
just
a few buttons. Too many buttons or any analog controls like touch or gesture
cause
lots of issues with wasted time and effort -- been there, done that. Don't
bother.
Hence cell-phone control is a bad idea.
I tried a presentation ("powerpoint") controller, but it is too focused on
presentation
slides. Possibly an "air mouse" might work.
Does anyone have any experience with using small remote control devices?
Ideally customizable
setup would be good.
