Hello George I do not believe there a issued with Ubuntu and playing DVD. Only because it is the play it self is locked dowm but if the dvdcss and the right codec's for the player it works. You will need to do this if you want play a family video as will I do not see why that will be illegal . If it was true they banning a people from watching home made video on there ubuntu systems. I will like to be in court one day if any one was charged with the new law to contest the law. I will call it a infringement of our human liberates as a Canadian citizen if we can't put a player in our Ubuntu systems.
Can any one tell me the process of play dvd's in new Microsoft system is there any downloading of codecs . Then the goverment will have crackdown on Microsoft products as will and that will not happen.
