Francis:

Given the ridiculously low cost of entry level laptops, would you not be
better to buy a new one and keep the old one as a headless server?
Entry level laptops today are better than the firebreathing monsters of
three years ago. Bought a laptop for my wife during Boxing day sales
for $400 and it is better than the one I paid $1.7K for five years ago.

Just a thought. Repairing an old one can't be cheap, it's not current
already, and you are still going to end up without real warranty.

Given your long history with the list, did this happen during one of
your epic battles with heathens? Did your temper get the better of you?
