^^^^  That is an excellent link!   I did not know that the built-in 
up2date feature in Red Hat skipped the kernel by default, and you have 
to force it with that -f switch.

I hope that this helps the original poster.

There is nothing wrong in experimenting and learning, but in the end it 
is the "easy" way that should win out.  ;)
