Good news! DSL through bell south is very compatible with linux. You will get
no support from bell south, but if you do some research you will find out how
to get your DSL working. What distro are you using? If you are using Linspire
or Mepis Linux, they should detect your dsl right away. If you are using Ubuntu
or Debian, you may have to activate your ethernet port before you can use it,
even if it is already working fine under windows. In any case, it would
probably be easier to use dsl than dial up.

I bet they said 'not supported', as opposed to 'not compatible'.

Read the modem documentation. If the modem has DHCP (most good ones, and
ones with more than a single computer port, do support DHCP), then all
you have to do is to set your machine to ask for a DHCP lease on
booting, and the connection should be made for you automatically.

If you are trying to run Windows games or applications on a Linux
operating system, you can't... unless you install emulator software,
like WINE, which I have no experience with, because my small LAN has
Windows, Linux Red Hat, FreeBSD, and OpenBSD up and running, so I don't
 need an emulator.
