Hi,
I am installing linus on a computer and it is hanging during the
step that it Formats the drive.
I initially installed Fedora 5 using Text mode and that seemed to
work, I guess. It brought me to the logon screen. I did not
realize that I should logon as a root user. I realize that now. I
thought that I was supposed to set up a user prior to getting to the
logon so I thought the install missed something.
So I installed more memory so I could run the gui install and then
when I ran it, it would get stuck on the Formatting section.
So I thought maybe somehting is wrong with the disk. So I did the
read test, andit failed.
Went to bookstore and exchanged the book and disc for a new one.
Same thing happened. So I installed Red Hat 7.something. Same
issue.
Yesterday I wrote zeros to the entire drive and tried reinstalling
the fedora 5. Unfortunately I got the same issue.
I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten this error and what can I
do to correct.
I am using an older computer for this, cause I am learning.
I am using an old Gateway Select 800. It originally had 128 memory
and I now have the 128 plus 2X256 cards installed. And I also have
added a drive (as I was having drive problems with my original one)
The new drive is my primary and it is 160gig.
Just so you know I have tried the install with just this drive and
also with my old drive attached as well, but not at the primary.
And still have the issue.
Not sure what to do next.
Any ideas????
