With Freespire, > the > choice is yours as to what software is installed on your computer, with > no > limitations or restrictions placed on that choice. How you choose to > maximize the performance of your computer is entirely up to you. I have done some testing of Freespire and found it for the most part to be a very good choice for a new user, especially one who doesn't want to mess around with installing Flash, Java, media codecs and nvidia or ati binary drivers. The downside of freespire is that it has a huge security problem, but that problem can be corrected fairly easily. The default user account lets you run sudo without a password. The other downside I found to Freespire is that they have done a very poor job of maintaining their click and run repository. It is filled with broken and uninstallable applications, And they seem unwilling to do anything to fix it. Also they don't see to update any of them Due to this I would recommend PCLInuxOS over Freespire for a new user. It also installs the codecs Java, and Flash but its more up to date and the applications in their repository work. It uses synaptic and not click and run and you its pretty easy to use. In addition I recommend Ubuntu and Kubuntu which although doesn't come with the non-free apps, it does have a way to easily install them with their multiverse and universe repository's and they also have a scripted program called easy ubuntu which seems to work well.
